Antique Lopburi Style Thai Bronze Enthroned Shiva Statue - 22cm/9"

Measurements - (Height) 22cm/9" Tall (Weight) 0.6kg/1.3lbs

An antique 17th century Lopburi style Thai bronze Shiva sculpture, from HD Asian Art.

Standing in four‑armed in serene poise and rendered in a Lopburi idiom with clear Khmer influence.

The deity stands in samabhanga on a small rectangular base, his compact, upright posture conveying both royal authority and quiet spiritual strength.

Shiva’s face is calmly composed, with downcast eyes, subtly arched brows and a firm mouth that together suggest introspection and watchful presence.

Lopburi, a province located in central Thailand, has a historical legacy that dates back to the Dvaravati period (6th to 11th centuries). The Lopburi style emerged during the later Sukhothai and Ayutthaya periods, around the 13th to 17th centuries, marking a distinct phase in Thai religious artistry.

For admirers of Asian art and those exploring the symbolic language of Hinduism, the enthroned Shiva offers a timeless narrative of cosmic order and spiritual insight.

In his hands, he holds his characteristic attributes: the sutra (Holy book), Lotus Flower, Pinda and gada (mace). The gada or mace symbolising his mental and physical strength.

The Shiva has perfect balance and proportions which are the key to a fine Shiva sculpture.

The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face and hands. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The patina and details of this piece are particularly appealing. The perfect traditional in appearance Shiva to bring serenity and timeless style to you home, office or sacred space.
